PAC has identified and investigated the requirements for the major portable, stationary, motive, and transportation applications of the ZAFC technology. Due to lifetime, cost, durability, and fuel infrastructure requirements, PAC believes that the markets will evolve as shown below, with back-up power and extended run applications first, followed by stationary applications, then followed by motive applications, and finally followed by transportation and cogeneration applications. Matching the ZAFC’s advantages with these market requirements, PAC is focusing resources on first commercializing Powerpacks for Mobile Electronic Devices, followed by portable indoor back-up generators. A successful indoor portable back-up generator product can be followed by entry into the UPS and Telecom back-up markets.

Demand for More Power Capacity and Longer Runtimes

The rate of evolution in the Mobile Electronic Device market is extremely quick, with new innovations in terms of functionality and internal operation being introduced every 6-12 months. Innovations include high speed communication, advanced color screens, more internet function and features, wireless capabilities, GPS functions on laptops and cell phones, multi-media functions such as camera and gaming, and TV broadband functions on multiple handheld devices. These innovations add to the power-hungry status that handheld devices have embraced over the last 3-5 years, with no end in sight in terms of power demand. The battery power source has not experienced this quick evolution, and is therefore challenged to maintain a decent runtime for many devices. With each added convergence and capability, devices require more power output, and traditional batteries struggle to maintain acceptable runtimes.  Power Air is well positioned to exploit this opportunity with its zinc air fuel cell technology.
